Canoeing at West Kunderang

Canoeing on the Macleay & Aspley Rivers

West Kunderang offers approx 10kms of river frontage

Half day to full day paddles are enjoyed while basing yourself at the main campsites. For the more adventurous, overnight trips from Hall’s Peak Road on the Chandler River (which becomes the Macleay), or from Riverside on the Apsley River, offer great paddling throughout the spectacular gorge country of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, culminating at West Kunderang.

As well, or alternatively, initiating an overnight trip from West Kunderang paddling down stream to Georges Junction, has long been a favourite for family paddling and keen bass anglers.

Please refer to the canoeing flyer below for further information, particularly in the planning aspects of canoeing these wilderness rivers.

River Safety

  • Be aware that the river heights can change dramatically and rapidly.

  • Ensure that all water craft are removed from the water after use to well above high water mark.
  • Before swimming, check water depth, current and temperature. Never dive or jump in as there may be hidden rocks or logs.
  • Children must be supervised in the water at all times.
